Web 2.0

Lately, I've been searching and searching for valuable tech resources to use within the classroom. What has impressed me the most are the websites that offer social networking, which is often referred to as Web 2.0. Despite the sometimes slow internet at our school I believe that this is what needs to be used as a regular part of instruction so that students are more engaged/motivated.

Unlike any other time before, the internet has made it possible so that students can easily create projects and then make it viewable for all their peers to comment on. It makes collaboration easier as well. Perhaps the most valuable aspect of using online resources is that it is time saving. Students can log on to voicethread.com, bighugelabs.com, or their own google site to create projects quickly and as effectively as they would with a piece of cardboard and crayons.

What do you think? Is this the next big thing in education or simply a neat idea that might not be very effective? What have you found in your searches?
